Descrición
In this course participants will learn how to exploit data in Excel with two powerful tools that are integrated in the latest versions of Microsoft® Office, Power Query, Power Pivot and DAX.
From different files or tables, as a data source, they will elaborate dashboards that give answers to the main questions that will be formulated.
In addition, the main characteristics of working with Power Query for the preparation of the data and Power Pivot to model and create calculations with DAX will be known, to finally pass this data to a project with Power BI.
Competencias a desenvolver
During the course participants will learn how to:
- Connect to, shape and load data for analysis.
- Visualise the results with pivot tables.
- Create a report that connects Pivot Tables and Pivot Graphs to visualise the results of the analysis on the initial data.
- Start a Project with Excel data in Power BI.
Metodoloxía
A 24-hour course in which theoretical concepts are interspersed with individual and group practice to help participants consolidate their knowledge.
The course will be delivered live online with the teacher, through the Zoom tool, and will consist of 8 sessions lasting 3 hours, distributed as follows:
- 1st session: Tuesday, 6 May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- 2nd session: Wednesday, 7 May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- 3rd session: Thursday, 8 May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- 4th session: Tuesday, 13th May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- 5th session: Wednesday, 14th May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- 6th session: Thursday, 15th May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- 7th session: Wednesday, 21th May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- 8th session: Thursday, 22th May from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Temario
Module 1. Connecting data
You will learn some of the different ways of connecting data that you can choose to incorporate into your analysis. You will connect data from another file, within a folder, in txt format, or from the web.
Module 2. Data preparation and loading
You will work with Power Query on some of the transformations that can be done with this powerful tool. Auxiliary operations and transformations such as combining, transposing or appending tables can be carried out. All automated and perfectly prepared to be updated when there are changes. It will be decided which tables are returned to the model and in which conditions.
Module 3. Data modelling
You will study how to relate tables by means of a Data Model. You will define the appropriate relationships, format and categorise the fields to be analysed, or create hierarchies.
Module 4. Adding Calculated and Measured Columns with DAX
DAX is the language with which you can perform calculations in Power Pivot. It can be used to create calculated columns, but especially measures.
With measures you can incorporate all kinds of calculations into the analysis, many of which would be difficult to imagine with traditional Excel.
You will work with the CALCULATE function and other complementary functions that will allow you to modify the context, such as the time intelligence functions that are present in all data analysis.
Module 5. Visualisation in Dynamic Tables and Chartss
Power Pivot results will be represented using Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts. You will learn the particular points of Pivot Tables when working on a data model.
Module 6. Integration into a Dashboard
Everything that is generated will be shaped in such a way that the result is practical, visual and interactive, reviewing different Excel visualisation techniques and tricks.
Module 7. Integration into a Dashboard
Power BI is Microsoft's business intelligence tool and can be directly connected to Excel. You will learn how to import the data model created in Excel into Power BI in order to multiply the analysis possibilities.
